I tried looking for this thread but I couldn't find it so I had to create a new one.
I'm looking for a parking space near Jefferson Park blue line (I know, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack).
But there is a parking lot (google map this: 41.971969,-87.76364).
I went to this place and you have to pay. The thing is that it has 3 boxes. 2 of them are the same which ask you for $1.50 and you will get to park there for a day. But there is another one which I don't know what is for. It says "Union Pacific Permit" and you have to pay $20.
Is it only for Union Pacific monthly riders (I'm taking the blue line)? Do you buy the $20 permit and pay every day $1.50?
This is really confusing since I never ride the train but now I'm going to school in downtown so I have to look for a place to park.
PS- this parking lot belongs to Impark and the lot number is 2248.
Thanks

Which parking lot are you talking about? The parking lot in Veteran's Plaza?

It's not in Veteran's Plaza. If you go north on Milwaukee and then you turn right into Northwest Hwy (right before Carmen Ave) then you can clearly see it.

^ It has been a while since I walked back there. If you are talking on Northwest Highway (where it is a side street) right next to the Metra train-I am pretty sure you need a Metra Permit to park there. ^

Call this number from this page:

866-989-1199

Call the number I listed above and/or call Metra at 312-322-6777. That is the only thing I can think of.

I took the blue line for 27 years and had to rent a parking space for a little old lady at Higgins and Central. Unfortunately she sold her unit when she moved into an assisted living. I then started taking the Metra and parking in its lot at Jeff Park. You need a permit which is free. However, the only way to get one is to show that you have a monthly ticket. You cannot get one for a ten ride. Usually when you purchase your ticket, they will give you a parking permit. The problem is that I have to take the 7:15 a.m. train. If you take the 7:33, you may be able to find parking, but definitely if you take the 8:04 you will never find parking. The other alternative is immediately across from the parking lot you can find parking after 10:00 a.m. If you park there before that time you will be ticketed. By the way, the fee is $1.50 and the lot is not run by Metra but an outside vendor.

So if I buy the $63.45 Metra monthly pass (online), which I won't be using anyways, then I will get a free parking permit. But I still have to pay $1.50 each day.
I have to be in downtown at 7:45 am so I could be at the station at around 6:40 am (I will be taking the Blue Line since it arrives right by my school).
I just hope you know which parking lot I'm writing about.
Thank you

Wouldn't it be easier to just leave the car in Portage Park wherever you park it there, take a bus to the Blue Line, and then go downtown from there? Assuming there's not some other reason you're driving to the Jefferson Park station, do you really save that much time by driving instead of taking the bus?
