Hi All! I am moving back to the Chicago area to a new job in the loop. My family is staying behind for now, so I need just a simple studio or 1BR. I do not need a party scene, but am not retired yet either (39 years old) and just like a million others, am looking for public transport/"L" access.

I am familiar w/ the 'burbs but am not very familiar w/ living near the city. I have been looking at Old Town and Lincoln Park, but can not spend a fortune either. I am a professional with family/children visiting at times. Would prefer a simple, historic, few-unit bldg to some mega-unit bldgs. THANKS for ANY input.

I am finding rent for 650-750 that seems reasonable for these places. Trust me, if I didn't have to keep a mortgage at the same time, I know that would open up lot of things. I am even finding many places w/ all utilities included in the rent.

Default Old Town info

I really want to find a little real info on Old Town. It looks like a good mix of people, fairly close to the city & transportation, enough shopping/restaurants, etc etc. Just seeing if also an option for public transport to the South Loop.

Well you can take the Red Line and a few buses down to South Loop. it depends how far east you are in Old Town though.

Where are you finding studios in Old Town for $650-750? I'd be scared of a place in that price range in Old Town, or Lincoln Park for that matter.

I've got multiple friends in lincoln park living in studios in that price range... None are even remotely sketchy at all
