OK, I am looking to begin missionary work with inner city missions on west fullerton, i will be relocating from georgia. i have never lived in a big city and am a bit overwhelmed on my "apartment search"..ive read through MANY FORUMS and hear "bad & good" things about logan square. they like us missionarys to live in the same neighborhood as the children we work with. my question is, out of all the forums i've read, i think bucktown, hyde park, and south loop is the safest for a single mother of 2 children. please give me input, on this statement? what are your opinons and maybe logan square is ok? how far is logan square from bucktown , hyde park and south loop. please dont tell me to read other forums as i have been but i have some specific questions id rather not have to dig for lol..thanks!

Hey Logan Square is a really cool neighborhood and is definitely safe. Its also within 2 miles from Bucktown. The South Loop I guess is cool too pending on what street you're looking at and can range to 5 miles from Bucktown. Hyde Park is on the southside so its definitely a distance away from Bucktown but nevertheless also a very cool urban neighborhood (probably to 10-12 miles from Bucktown) (and not to mention home to Barrack Obama). All of these neighborhoods IMO are great choices and have a lot to offer (such as shopping & entertainment) so really it would probably depend on your personal preference. (I'm brand new on here as you can see so it might take me a while to relocate this thread if you direct a new question to me so bare with me lol)

"i think bucktown, hyde park, and south loop is the safest for a single mother of 2 children."

Where in the world did you get that idea?

"please dont tell me to read other forums as i have been but i have some specific questions id rather not have to dig for lol..thanks!"

No problem. Then I will not waste my energy answering your questions either.

Oh wait you got this thread:

Logan Square is fine. The area you'll be working in is a bit sketchy, but definitely not awful. It is most definitely nowhere near the worst parts of the city. Hell, there's a ski shop right around there.

Are you planning to send your kids to public school? If so, what grades are they in? If they're in elementary school Goethe is the best neighborhood school in the area, and you can also check out some magnet schools at the beginning of the next school year. Check the CPS website for neighborhood school boundaries.

The areas along Fullerton between Western and California are fine. I won't admit to how many times I've stumbled home from Quencher's through that area at all hours over the last 7 years. I've never had a problem.

South Loop and Hyde Park would be a horrible commute, and aren't significantly safer areas. If you find a place East of Western you'll be in Bucktown, West of Western you're in Logan Square. Logan Square is a massive community area, so check the address anytime you see a crime report about Logan Square - Everyblock.com is always great.

Logan Square is a big neighborhood with some sections that are nice and others that are sketchy. The best areas are generally along Logan Blvd (north of Fullerton, south of Diversey, east of Kedzie, and west of I-94). I would avoid anything west of Kimbell or south of Armitage in that area.

Bucktown is just southeast of Logan Square, with Western Avenue as the border. Bucktown is more upscale and safer than Logan Square.
