Hey all, I have a question:

I' moving to Chicago in November, from Atlanta; and I'm doing some preliminary researching about apartments.

I'm trying to find area, however the following are some of my preferences

An area, where the train is accessible....(my job is downtown, and I'd like to just hop on the train and get there)

An area with a younger, vibrant crowd (I'm 25)..local bars and such

Also, I have a big
Spoiler
ass
pickuptruck, so a place with decent parking

An area where I can find a nice place for at the most $1,000 a month for a one bedroom.

Lastly, I'm a workout buff...I go to the LA Fitness in Atlanta frequently, hopefully this area will have a gym (preferably an LA fitness) in the vicinity

Do you guys know of any areas that possess these qualities? Thanks in advance!

You are going to have to get rid of that "big
Spoiler
ass
pickuptruck" if you want to be able to park on the street.

Lincoln park and lakeview are the areas you want to be in. However be warned theses are places where parking is very hard to get. If you want to keep the pickup you are going to need to find a place with parking and they are going to charge you for it. These and downtown are locations where having a car can be more haslte than it is worth.

See this thread and you can decide if it is worth the gamble or not:

From the city website:

http://www.chicityclerk.com/residentialpickuptruck.php (broken link)

And you are going to pay through the nose for a private parking space. Don't say we did not warn you.

And the LA Fitness franchises in Chicago are all south of the loop. There are plenty of other gyms here though.

Appreciate the help guys.

And Avenger, that thread you posted is interesting. Wow, I didn't know there are areas in Chicago where you cannot drive a pickup truck through. Interesting..

On-street parking will be impossible, and in many parts of town, illegal after 6pm.

Even if you find off-street parking, parking spots tend to be tight squeezes for conventional cars, never mind for a full-size pickup truck.

A lot of downtown lots won't even let you park your truck at all.

At the moment, gasoline is about $3.25/gal for regular in town. Compare that to whatever you're paying now.

Chicago living and full-size trucks are not a good mix. IMO the only way to make it even livable is to have your own garage.

I know that I couldn't fit my truck into my garage at the last place I lived at, it lives up in Wisconsin with my other toys now. It has an 8 foot bed though...
