I am heading to Tennessee tomorrow morning. I need to get from Gurnee down south until I get to route 57. I am thinking of taking 294 to avoid the traffic on 94 through the city. Will that save me time, or will 294 have the same amount of traffic? I have never taken 294 that far south during rush hour. Thanks.

294 is faster than 94, but by no means a breeze between 7am-9am ish. 94 is a disaster, so 294 is better.

294 is better choice. If you're going to Nashville, I-65 to I-24 is faster than I-57 to I-24. If you're going to Western part of TN then I-57 is the choice.
