Can you clarify where your job is? "South Chicago" is a distinct neighborhood within the city of Chicago.

I'd go with Hyde Park. You'll most likely be driving down Lake Shore Drive (route 41) to 100th st. to Torrence. It would be much more involved to get to your job from other areas.

thats way south east. If that is the case, living in hyde park would probably cut your commute time but If you do choose Bridgeport you can just drive across the Dan Ryan Expressway and hop on lake shore drive after a couple of miles and keep driving down.

Yeah Northwest Indiana would be closer but if you don't mind the commute, Hyde Park is a great choice. Great historical neighborhood with tons of cute shops and restaurants with multiple types of cuisine. Prices are a bit higher now with it being the same neighborhood as our Presidents Chicago home but I think its worth it. Also they do have some relatively cheaper apartments but they are cheaper usually because of parking. The cheaper ones usually don't offer parking and you'd be lucky to find one on the street. So if you drive, beware but if you're a commuter its more convenient,
