Specifically for psychology or computer science? I am interested in both but I don't know if UIC is any good for computer science. What are the benefits of going to UIC?

It's pretty good, especially for a state school. I think in 2007 it was ranked 34th in the nation for CompSci which isn't too shabby. My mom went there for psychology and she's really good, she loved the college too. I don't know how they're ranked in that department though.

Hope that helps.

The school is very unorganized. Faculty is apathetic. It's still a "commuter school" meaning not many parties and you won't have the 'college experience' if you go as a freshman, like you would at say SIU, NIU or WIU. But it's close to downtown so that can lead to some cool experiences. Plus you would feel right at home among the legions of Indians and Muslims there.

From an academic standpoint the only thing UIC has to offer that other schools don't is the Medical District. Computer science at UIC will be fine, although a common complaint I've heard is that those professors don't speak English very well. Psychology, and just Liberal Arts in general, is something you should stay away from at UIC. It will be a headache.

Overall it was a mediocre experience for me. Good memories and bad. If I had to do it over I would choose a different school.

Mathematical computer science is an excellent department at UIC -- better than any other school in the Chicago area and lower tuition. Avoid DePaul, Loyola, etc. The only place better in Illinois would be UIUC (Urbana-Champagne).

I wouldn't waste my time on psychology. An undergrad psych degree is as useless as any other liberal arts degree for finding a job, and it's very competitive to get into a good grad program.

If you are good at math and can program, there are still opportunities in computer science.

The only degrees worthwhile now a days are ones that train you for a definite job function screw soft skills.

Accounting, economics finance
Engineering
Med Dental Pharmacy
HR
optometry/physical therapy (PhD)

Biology and chemistry suck too (btw I went to UIC for both undergrad and MSc). I am looking to change to accounting for 40k+ and benefits.

U of I Computer sciences should be outstanding considering that Champaign has the root server, and has had since the first message was sent from Berkley.

I'd argue Northwestern and UChicago both have a better Comp Sci Program than UIC. Ehm, would you like to argue? But yes it is lower tuition.
