Hi. I'm 20 years old, and I've been thinking of moving to Chicago for awhile now. Being that I am only 20 years old, I was wondering if it was even possible for me to support myself if I did move? I don't know much about how much things are there and the jobs and stuff. I do have the money to relocate from AL (where I live now), to Chicago.

I guess I'm basically asking what are some of the cheapest prices for apartments, where are jobs that I could support myself and just what are some good, and bad things, about Chicago in general?

Most everything I've seen about the place looks like it would be an awesome place to live.

How much money do you have?
What kinds of skills do you have?

Default Well, given your screen name...

...there's always the worlds oldest profession. Assuming you'd rather not do something as risky / risqué , I gotta tell you that employment in Chicago remains very very very difficult. Even folks with generaly in-demand skills like college educated accountants are simply NOT finding work.

If you do not have a job lined up, or at least have a bunch of friends that will be happy to put you up I would strongly recommend against moving any time soon. Even if you several thousand dollars saved up it would be wiped out in months with no job and high rents.

I have over 30k from something that happened when I was little, but other than that I have no college background or anything.. And I'm not looking to waste it all...

I guess I'm going to hold off for a few years if finding any type of job is very difficult :\

Thanks for the help guys

You'd be better off investing that $30k into some education than spending it on moving somewhere. Unless you want to work in a trade then pretty much any professional job you want in a big city will be taken by someone more educated than you.
