Our Persian Jesuit is spot on. 23 year old attacks a 69 year old on his own property and the 69 year old is supposed to hold back? Run away? No.

I'm thinkin' this fella that was killed was probably bad news anyways.

The law doesn't permit you to brandish a weapon when you are not in imminent danger and then claim self-defense when the person reacts to the threat. He made bad decisions that led to someone ending up dead at his hands. Whether the guy he killed was bad news or not wasn't his call to make. That's what we have a criminal justice system for -- or at least I thought it was until I heard about this sentence.

They both made bad decisions. Ofcourse when a gun is involved people get dead real quick when the IQs are low and the tempers short.

Yes, both made bad decisions. One is now in the ground and the other who put him there is a free man. That's bull****.

You know what is funny about this whole story? If the guy would have punched a cop and the cop shot him, everyone would be calling for the cop's job and his head.

If dead cops are worse than dead civilians than cops killing people should be held to a higher moral and legal standard than civilians killing people.

This story is old, by the way. I live right by University Park. I heard about this incident after it happened.

None of this would have happened, if that young punk had left the MARINE and his property ALONE. He punched a 69 year old Marine, who easily could have been killed at that age. The marine feared for his safety. End of story. He deserves a medal for having to deal with human dirt like that after serving his country. Most vets just want to be left alone in peace.
