Dave Duerson, a starting safety on the 1985 Chicago Bears team that won the Super Bowl, was found dead in his Miami home, the team said on Friday. He was 50.

The cause of death was not released.

Really sad day for fans of Chicago sports, Da Bears & Dave Duerson. He was more than just a former football player. He had 4 kids, and he was a persistent businessman that refused to give up amidst adversity. He's gonna be missed for sure.

He was an occasional subject of my Commercial Law class because the professor represented the meatpacking plant he owned. He did very well for himself for a while, even had a contract with McDonald's to supply them with a good chunk of their breakfast sausage. Then the company tried to upgrade some of its equipment but never could get it to function properly. Ultimately it ruined him and his business, and while the professor didn't say so, one got the impression that he had become an all-around broken man. Very sad story.

Damn, that really sucks. Makes you think though. You could be living the high life one day (millions of dollars of income / millions of dollars in the bank / successful business / mansion) & then be struggling the next day. Gotta always be ready to withstand the rough patches.
