I don't know what kind of carpet treatment I should use in my new condo. No one lived in the condo before and it has been vacant for almost 8 years before I bought it. The carpet looks very clean (no stain and spot). However, the condo keeps vacant in an environment that no heater / air conditioning is on for so many years, I afraid that there is some mold inside or underneath the carpet. I did call some carpet cleaning companies, what they can do to the carpet is hot steam. I am not sure whether this treatment really fits my need. Of course I don't want to replace the whole carpet, I am just not sure what kind of carpet treatment I should adopt and which companies can help me.

Does anyone have this experience?

Holy moly. 8 years? Did you buy it or are you renting it?

What is the subfloor, concrete, gypcrete or wood?

I am not sure. I can hear people walking on the upper floor. This is a typical 3 story condo in Chicago. I guess it is wood.

Anyone can give me some advise of what should I do to the carpet? Thx.

How was it vacant for 8 years?!

Hot steam cleaning will remove the mold if there is any from your carpet, but you have to be sure to use fans to dry it after the fact or the mode can just come back.

That said, if you can't smell it or see it and you don't feel sick in your condo, it's probably not there.

I would be surprised if you need to do anything.
