Can anyone suggest a good boxing gym for a beginner? I'm not talking about for cardio and such, I want to eventually spar and perhaps get brain damage (who knows).

Alot of the ones found on google seem to be geared towards fitness only.

There is a great boxing coach that has train several Golden Glove champions that runs classes at "Ultimate Fitness" in Evanston. Not cardio boxing for sure!

I workout at My Kempo Martial arts in Buffalo Grove. They have a pro boxer who is a coach there. Check it out. I love it.

Some ex boxers hang around Gianni's cigar store at 31st and Canal. Ask in there.

There is a boxing gym at Hamlin Park (part of the Chicago park district). I don't know what their policies are on training people but it is worth checking out. Here is a list of CPD facilities that offer boxing

If you aren't too far from there, there is a boxing club at about 35th and Halsted.

Shouldn't be too far if you're near 31st and Canal.

Chicago's Premier Boxing Gym, Muay Thai and MMA facility

No doubt about it. Full of coaches you'll see at every Golden Gloves. Oh, and fighters at every Golden Gloves

Sorry- that link is for Chicago Boxing. Check them out and good luck. Avoid brain damage, though. It's not cool. Wear headgear. Cheers.
