Can anyone suggest a good boxing gym for a beginner? I'm not talking about for cardio and such, I want to eventually spar and perhaps get brain damage (who knows).

There is a great boxing coach that has train several Golden Glove champions that runs classes at "Ultimate Fitness" in Evanston. Not cardio boxing for sure!

I workout at My Kempo Martial arts in Buffalo Grove. They have a pro boxer who is a coach there. Check it out. I love it.

There is a boxing gym at Hamlin Park (part of the Chicago park district). I don't know what their policies are on training people but it is worth checking out. If you aren't too far from there, there is a boxing club at about 35th and Halsted.
Shouldn't be too far if you're near 31st and Canal.
