West Rogers Park

I know WRP is safer than RP, I have read many of the threads. However, the location of that RP building is a few blocks away from the lake, which should be safe right?

I looked at blockshopper and found out that more than 90% of both addresses are demographically white. This cannot be true/updated can it? I also checked Wikipedia and West Rogers Park seemed like the better choice. I am coming from the South Side (35th and Mexicans) and i heard gunshots like 2 weeks ago at night. Obviously, I want to be at a somewhat safer place. West Rogers Park seem to have a more lively community (restaurants/groceries) according to zillow and google.

I know I will get a lot of IT DEPENDS... but let's hear from people with experience yea?

I don't understand what you're asking. If WRP seems to be the better option in terms of safety, then chose WRP if that is your primary reason for relocating. Ultimately, yes - you're going to get a lot of "it depends" - because it does. Rogers Park is not crime ridden, but it is also not crime free. Unless you're going to be purchasing and selling drugs, taking late night walks or stumbling around drunk - you will be fine in East Rogers Park.

I was asking to see if anyone from around the block can give me their take.

Obviously the more desirable choice is West Rogers Park. But if you're living by yourself (no kids), I don't think you would have too much to worry about either way. You are coming from 35th & what...?

Yes. Gangbangers stay away from water; it makes them melt.
Sorry, had to.

As long as you don't go looking for trouble, you probably won't find any.

35th and Wood.
I assume that places closer to the lake are more business oriented, friendly, costly (therefore better).
I just drove by them both today, but since it was raining, i didn't see much people out, so i couldn't really figure the place out much. I did see that the roads are small and parking is almost impossible.

You'd assume incorrectly. East Rogers park, specifically near the Lake is predominantly where the crime in Rogers Park takes place. As far as parking, yes - that's typically a no go unless you're paying for it privately.

The greenview address in north of Howard.
Upside, close to lake and El stop at Howard.

Alot of West RP (Westridge) has crime as well, so I dont think
I would move there just on safety concerns alone.

Rogers Park is continuing to improve
and Howard is going to streetscaped just like Morse just was.

Rogers Park has a much better location than
West Ridge, the problem with that section of Rogers Park
is that there is still alot of section 8 buildings that need to
turn over and empty out, but its not the zombieland it
used to be. There are a few bright spots around there,
a new cabinet store opened up on Howard and also
a new cooperative bicycle shop opened up on Paulina
north of Howard. I think its a nobrainer that
someone should open up a coffee shop on Howard by the El station.

That area on rosemont is okay, kinda ho hum,
in general that area of West Ridge is interesting and stable,
its near one of the best salvation armies in the city.

Its safe, super safe? Nope.... but okay.

Overall I would rather live in an area with a brighter future,
it depends on how long you will live there, parking is better
in West Ridge, but alot of people live there too, both areas quite dense.

Why does Rogers Park and that area of Rogers Park
have a brighter future? Its by the lake and by an EL stop.

EL stops play a vital role in areas in the city that are improving
and attracting young professionals.

Go here and type in the address you want. For display option, select crimes only. Map the results using Google maps. EveryBlock Chicago: Local news for your Chicago neighborhood

Also, check crime stats for the CPD's 24th District. (See if you can talk to a CAPS officer at the station) The Greenview address is in Sector 2, Beat 2422. The Rosemont address is located in Sector 1, Beat 2413.
