I am new on the forum and in need of housing as of April 5th at the earliest and April 7th at the latest. I only make two bucks short of 1,000 a month and have a little over 1,000 saved up. I keep running into all of these rental agencies who either require "excellent" credit and five to six times a person's income or their landlord clients want some unbelievably high financial expectation met before they will rent to someone.

Are there any landlords out here who read this forum and would rent to someone like me who can only afford 400 to 550 a month? Section 8 / CHA lists have been closed for quite some time as I understand and the CHA site says no new applications are being accepted.

I am looking North or Northwest if possible. Heck, I'd even live in the South Loop area or the West side near UIC or something. I've never been thrown out of a place, never been threatened with eviction, never skipped rent, never been late with rent, my income is guaranteed, and I've never been a problem with my neighbors.

Thanks for any replies from ANYONE who can help with leads on private landlords not asking for ridiculous, picky, and unrealistic requirements to be met.

I don't think you should live in the city. You will not be able to live on that. Do you plan to have a cell phone, use electricity or heat? sorry, you've already reached your budget. No grocery shopping this month. The cheapest studio you will find is around $650. I doubt it would include heat at that price though. You should try looking in the south burbs or NW Indiana but then you'd likely need a car.

Good luck.

I already live in the city, I just need a place by my deadline. There are tons of disabled folks living in the city on less than I receive, I just don't quite know how they found their places. I am a vet of the city, have been here many years. Just had a change of life circumstances is all.

I don't think you realize that someone will an income of less than $1000 a month is eligible for the Link Card, a free cell phone, and utility assistance.
