Hi, I’m planning on moving to Chicago in a few months and any feedback would be great. I’m looking for a studio apartment for under $650/month, located somewhere between Lincoln Park and Edgewater. I’ve found a multitude of places online, however while scouring the web for reviews I’ve found a slew of distressing posts about bedbugs, roaches and other vermin in many of the buildings I’ve researched. I’m not looking for a large place, I don’t mind living in 300 sq ft. I just don’t want to end up somewhere that is vermin infested. Does anyone know of any SPECIFIC buildings where I can find a studio in my price range that’s not a bug haven. Edgewater appears to have many places in my price range and I like the location, however online reviews seem to suggest many buildings in this area are hit and miss.

For $625 a month there is a good chance bedbugs, roaches and other vermin may be involved. You gotta come here in person and check out the places. Never rent from afar unless you absolutely have to.

I definitely plan on searching for a place in person, I currently live in Ann Arbor Mich, so making a couple of trips out to find a place wouldn't be a problem. I've considered using an apartment finder service (Chicago Apartment Finders); however I'm not sure how reputable this place is.

From what I hear, they are ok. I have never needed their services so I can't tell you for sure.

They(chicago apartment finders) showed me about 8 places when I was in town last weekend. All the places I saw were in edgewater, south east rogers park, and andersonville in the same price range. They seemed and were very professional, BUT the apartment I was about to fill out an application for already had one in and was accepted. They would of let me file the application for the place($50) even though the place they showed me that day was already filled(though the app fee is a one time deal for any apartment you would chose from them). I think that had more to do with how fast apartments are going this season than the company, but just a heads up. Would I recommend them, yes. Just make sure the place is still available. In the end I found a place on my own.

I hope that helps.

Well I just know a guy named Shane who lives in the Ann Arbor area and I had to recently block him from Facebook because he was getting too creepy, so it just seems like a weird coincidence that a person named Shane from Ann Arbor wants to live in the exact areas I posted a thread about a week ago. But that's probably all it is, a weird coincidence.

That's not me...just a coincidence, but if you have any advice on a decent building I'd be appreciative.

Thank you, I'll definitely look into them further.
