Does anyone know how specific hospitals are doing in Cook County / Chicago?

Do you or a family member work at a hospital locally and can provide us with some information?

How crowded are you? How crowded are your ICUs?
How is testing getting done, or getting prioritized?
How are the medical providers and staff being protected?
Are you running out of protective equipment? How are they dealing with this?

How is it affecting you?

Tell us what you can, and give advice if you have it.

Good luck.

If you have been in the hospital as a patient, or have a family member or friend in the hospital and can share any information that way, it would also be extremely helpful.

We all should think about whether there are things we can do or have at home that can help our local hospitals.

On Reddit, a 12 year old boy was using a 3D printer to make more face shields for doctors.

CPAP machines, instead of ventilators, can be helpful for some patients. Some of us have old machines in our basements we aren't using. Maybe they can be donated? Let's gather information and help.

I can say that some hospitals are running "under-capacity" in the Boston area on the premise that they want beds to be open while we're undergoing peak exposure times. It's been estimated that the next 2-3 weeks are crucial to determine if the curve is flattening...

I think the request was for personal experience, not media reports.

I spent 2 days in Prentice Women's hospital last week (not sure if this info is fully relevant). There are masks, they limiting the visitors to 1 - even for laboring mothers, so think no doulas if you visitor #1 is your partner. They sent me home 2 days after C-section (normal stay 3-4 days). At that point, I was just glad there were nurses and doctors still up and running.

I hope you and your baby are both very well! What a particularly intense time for you. Stay safe!

IT is not some fake news that is being reported for views.

I literally have to carry around my mask all the time and store it in a baggy.

Goes against all the cross-contamination stuff we were taught.
I was reading that extended wear rather than reusing was preferred...but that's only if you're not moving between infected and uninfected people.
