Ok so roomie and I are searching for an apartment in the NW side of the city. (Jeff.Park,Portage, Norwood, Edison etc.) Is it realistic to find an appartment in the price range of 1200 with all upscale finishes (i.e granite, stainless steel etc and washer and dryer in unit) for that price range? I say hardly, but I dont think roomie is hearing it.. Thanks in advance

If by, "drag on forever", you mean "take two minutes"...

Old Irving Park - 2 Bedroom / 1 Bathroom Gut Rehab Unit Available $120 (http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/apa/2327358010.html - broken link)

Awesome hot deal hot location...Don't miss!!! Jefferson Park (http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/apa/2335699409.html - broken link)

in unit laundry will be the killer. I've typically only seen that in condos for rent (in the city of Chicago, at least.) You may try looking specifically for that type of building/situation.

FWIW, I had an apartment with my ex-wife in the suburbs - 2 BR/1 bath - no granite or stainless, but it had in unit w/d and garage parking - $1200 (not including trash/sewage, water, electricity, gas.)

The Irving Park location we have been to...It doesnt have enough space because roomie's relatives are coming over in august/ september for about a 1.5 months(staying with us) and before that my relatives are visiting and even tho they will be living at my parents I would like them to come over every once in a while...She has very specific tastes and at this point I feel like I need to have a convo about her expectations.

I never expected to find a w/d in unit in chicago at out budget of $1200, but the place we rented in Wicker Park actually did -- sure it was kind of oddly in the kitchen, but who cares!?!

But no, you really can't expect it, and on top of the other requirements I think you guys are going to have a tough time.

W/D in unit is very difficult to find in an apartment unless you live in a condo that is being rented out as an apartment or one of the luxury highrises downtown.

If you have to compromise on something, W/D in unit should be it.
