I am a Northeast girl moving to Downtown Chicago in 2 weeks and my current bank does not exist in Illinois. Where should I open an account? I have TD Bank over here becuase it's super convenient (their trademark is "America's most convenient bank"), you get your card on the spot when you open the account and it has alot of ATMs. What's similar in Chicago?

What is TD?
Anyway Chase probably has the most locations anywhere
To me thats really important
Almost any walgreens has a chase atm too
I just find that very easy and have not had any probs with them

I have Chase as well and am pretty pleased with, the ATMs are everywhere. Beyond that they also have very good fraud support. In the past 7 years I've had to contest legitimate claims 3 times and they have always refunded my money.

Thanks guys, I guess TD stands for Toronto-Dominion Bank (Toronto-Dominion Bank - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) it's popular on the east coast

Dumb question: How can Toronto-Dominion be America's most convenient bank?

You know I am 100 percent with you on this matter
lost my debit and all my cards last year
reported to chase and they were all over the situation
not a problem at all
discover same thing
very happy with both , they have my loyalty

twice i also disputed a merchant charge and chase took care of that right away
and even had us operators- very very pleased.

I would hate to have peggy from capital one on the case

I'm curious, do you have a Citizen's bank account? I know Citizen's is well known in New England (I'm originally from Boston) but out here in Chicago, where Citizen's is Charter North, there aren't as many banks/ATM, though there is a branch right downtown. just a heads up so you don't feel a massive rush to change banks if this is indeed the case.

if you plan on going back to the Northeast for visits a lot, I would get Bank of America over Chase. It's been my experience when visiting family/friends in Boston, Providence, Manchester, NH, and Philly that Chase is almost non-existent compared to BofA. I have BofA and have had zero issues w/ them

Chase has the largest presence in Chicago, most branches and atm's. Most people hat BofA locally, though I don't have personal experience with them. I would go with Chase or a locally owned bank like North Community where you have good access to branches near where you live.

After dealing with chase during the WaMu transition I could never refer them to a friend or internet stranger. It was an unadulterated mess. But they certainly do have the most locations.

Honestly? I would pick whatever local bank is closest to your apartment.
