I'm moving to Chicago from India. Here are my requirements, 1 hour drive to the airport as my husband is a freq flier. I am looking for living in a safe neighbourhood with shopping and restaurents and may be 20 to 30 mins ride to downtown Chicago. However the priority is for my daughter who will be attending elementary school (grade 3) so it has to be a good school district. My housing budget in $1500 including utilities.

After extensive googling Ive left with the foll choices, Arlington Heights, Naperville, Lincoln Park, GlenView, Buffallo Grove and Des plaines. I was previously living in Rotterdam,Holland loved it there and am looking for something along those lines.
Can anyone help me with more info on these places please? and yes I did go thru this thread also

You might also try Schaumburg. Good schools, close to the airport, lots of shopping and dining options including Indian shops/grocery stores/restaurants, and fairly convenient to Chicago. Skokie and Park Ridge are other options. Park Ridge in particular is very close to the airport, very convenient to downtown Chicago, and pretty good schools. Not much of an Indian population in Park Ridge, but you'd only be about 20 minutes from the main Desi section of Chicago, which is anchored around the intersection of Devon and Western Avenues.

Drover,
thanks for the quick reply, will being closer to Chicago mean costlier cost of living?

If you're renting, the cost of living isn't substantially different in any of the places that you have listed or that I have suggested. If you intend to buy a home, then being closer to the city might make more of a difference.
