Whoa, whoa. I enjoy my fixed gear. As far as decent acceleration...you don't. You push like hell until you get up to speed. Which is why (in my theory) some of these damned cyclist run red lights and act all crazy. They don't want to stop and re-accelerate.

As far as no brakes, that's just stupid. skid stopping isn't nearly as effective as a true brake.

You do know what lament means, don't you?

While the hipster types might lament the fact there those big suburban office campus are not easily accessed via public transit that does not change the fact of where the jobs are.

Looks like you can park at the 59 metra station from 3pm to 8am the next day if you're a reverser commuter with a permit, $65 a quarter for a non resident? Did I read that right? 6pm to 6am is free without a permit.
City of Naperville || Commuter Station Parking

And using the Google transit tool on maps, looks like I could get away with a little over an hour of a commute if I'm living in some of the Gold Coast/Old Town areas. Any more north into Lincoln Park and it gets longer. West Loop... looks like ~45 min train ride from Union Station to 59 metra station. Not great but doable.

Thanks so much for the hipster info. If not informative, it's entertaining.

Glad to hear you liked the hipster talk. They are very bad people....
