Considering moving to Irving Park or Rogers Park. Is the area safe? The area we are considering is near Kimball avenue. Help is appreciated.

Thanks..

I noticed in your other thread/post you are looking to move near Naperville. If you will be working in Naperville you really do not want to live in Irving Park or Rogers Park. It will take you an hour and a half to two hours to get to work everyday.

YOu are correct. We are looking at apartments that fir our budget $1350 and want to live near NAPV but have access to trains to get to Chicago during the weekends. Any help or suggestions are welcome? Names of places, complexes would help too.

WE are visiting the area next weekend

Thanks,
Raj

Just some guy was killed a couple of days ago in that very alley of Kimball and Irvin Park. Otherwise safe.

Some parts of Rogers Park isn't really safe and some parts of Irving park aren't safe either. I personally think it's better to live around Irving Park. It's more adult friendly.

Irving park is relatively safe, but if you have a choice I would live more east of Kimball. You'd be closer to Ravenswood Manor, Horner Park, a quick drive or jog away from Lincoln Square... The more west you go of Kimall, the more "urban" is gets. There are quite a few places popping up on Irving Park Rd between California and Kimball, a couple of sports bars, deli, coffee shop... seems like it's beginning to attract some businesses and night life. It's no Lincoln Square, or even Rosco Village, but I'd imagine it could create a decent entertainment area for itself within the next 5 to 10 years, if the economy improves.

Rogers Park is a large area, some parts are safe, some are pretty sketchy. Had friends that lived in the sketchy parts and witnessed various shootings and gang related incidents. One friend was called a "white bi*ch" walking home from the red line... Ironic considering she was half Mexican, and looked it. West Rogers Park is considered a lot more desirable, and safer. Stay away from the Howard Red line stop.

If the choices are Irving Park or Rogers Park, I'd still choose Irving Park regardless of the commute. If proximity is a concern, I'd suggest living in one of the western suburbs, which would be a lot closer.
