Does anyone know where you can rent canoes near the city? I know that they offer kayak trips on the Chicago river but we are looking for something with more wilderness. If anyone knows of a place it would be appreciated. We're really just looking for a day trip to get away from the city, rent a canoe, drink a few beers and relax.

Google returned this: KAYAKMORRIS.com Kayak Bike Canoe Chicagoland tours (http://www.kayakmorris.com/Self_Guided_Rentals.html - broken link)

Morris is decent drive for a day trip.

Look up C/M canoe rentals in Wedron...about 1 1/2hr south of city or Freemans in Yorkville. Both are 1st class easy trips. C/M ends at a bar....sounds just like your kind of place only remember long drive home....there is camping in the area also.

Not sure about canoes but you can rent kayaks at North Avenue Beach and at Montrose Beach. I think you can also rent them somewhere on the river.
