Yes, the community is mobilizing to stop the wierd creeps that have been harrassing and fighting with people. The Guardian Angels group has created a side group called the Pink Angels (actually, they have been 'reactivated' after they disbanded in the late 90's), which is basically a volunteer security force that patrols neighborhoods and intervenes physically to stop thugs from beating up innocent people. The Chicago PD and the alderman and congressman put their seal of approval on that, and the Angels are in training now. There are several other measures in place that are rolling out.

The thing is, it will take several months of training for the Angels to be ready to start nightly patrols, but better late then never.

One thing we are hoping for, is that when school starts and the cooler weather comes back, that the violence will subside; this seems to be the case in years past, that the crime levels go down when it is gets cold and rainy out. But we will see.
I believe there was a segment on the news about the angels not too long ago if memory serves correct. So from what your mentioning it sounds like teens early teens . teens that are still in school and have not dropped out
So lets wait till the first frost and then the freaking thugs will go in hiding

No Officer will ever tell you crime is down. It's the people way above the pay grade and political influence of an Officer that make these decisions. It's the smoke and mirrors routine but people buy it. Then even when you try to explain how easy it is to manipulate the figures and reclassify crimes, some still don't want to believe it.

Yeah I get your point but you have to have some type of yardstick and if your comparing figures year to year month to month
its still a good comparison

that is just the way i am looking at the crime stats
i get what your saying you want low crime stats to show positive for the mayor police dept, economic activity, tourism etc... and its easy to classify say a murder as something else if its not reported or unsolved

clearly you know something about the law or police depts by your name and i am just your average joe citizen

Maybe YOUR neighborhood is quiet this year. What neighborhood do you live in?

Our safety depends upon how we live where we live and who we bring into our environment. If we walk around with an ipad in one hand, iphone in the other and music blasting through our mp3 player while intoxicated. You will be a target.

If you buy a condo in a trendy neighborhood with a bar culture, bath houses and adult book stores. Season that with undercover drug dealing and prostitution, you have got a situation that can flair up and take the neighborhood down quickly when the wrong people get a hold of it.

Much of this is common sence. It's all about making good choices.
