Crime is down from several years ago, and I'd say that most people (myself included) who live in the "safe neighborhoods" generally feel safe going about their day to day business.

However, I still consider the overall crime rate to be out of control. If you ask me, any occurrence of violent crime where an innocent person was affected is out of control, otherwise it wouldn't have happened. It sounds like maybe we've been desensitized a bit too much when we consider 400 murders a year not be a big deal. That is still very much a problem and not something I'd consider to be "under control", whether it affects me personally where I hang out on a day to day basis or not.

My inent was to find out if people think chicago violence is out of control. Simple as that. And also murder isn't the only "violent crime" if you know what I mean.

Everyone knows that. Murder is quite an indicator though.

It is. But it just seems that only murder is brought up when people make their decsion if chicago violence is "out of control".

I dont think the violence is "out of control". Its just downplayed. Chicago doesnt seem to be top 10-top 5 on the dangerous city list when it should be. Chicago still has that old past that made the city for what its still known for today. Im sorry. But thats apart of our history...

Wait, so you're saying because of Al Capone, Chicago needs more violent attacks? Because we're "known for" violence?

I think that poster was implying that the mob scene in Chicago's past should be factored into the lists they make for Top 10 most dangerous city. Why, I don't know.

Ridiculous. The Outfit hasn't killed anyone in a decade. If anything the mob since the '70s probably kept violence down in many areas. There are a lot of myths about the mob but one that seems to be true is that they kept the drug dealers out of certain neighborhoods. I doubt, in fact, there was any non-mob sanctioned crime at all in Bridgeport or Taylor Street in the '70s and '80s.
