University of Chicago/Hyde Park "The Pub" (house, cost)

Has anyone been to "The Pub" inside the Ida Noyes building basement? I have a friend who spent years in the Hyde Park area, actually worked at The Pub for 2 years, anyway he highly recommended that I check it out. I'm new to the area and would love to meet some people in the Hyde Park area.

My question on "The Pub" is, does it cost anything to get in for non-students? I have a career and work in the Loop and am not currently a student. I have heard different things from "It's free to get in" to "You have to pay $5 cover if you are non-student." Can anyone shed some light on this?

I think it's $1 for non-students. Not 100% sure though.

The Pub is a private club , and you <used ?> to need some sort of University affiliation ( Student, Alum, Faculty, Staff) to join ...I think technically non-members need to be accompanied by a member, but you can always check at the door ..Second Manigault's recommendation for Jimmy's and the Cove ..would also recommend Cirals House of Tiki , but, sadly, it's now but a hazy memory ..

I used to work there. It's a private club for students, faculty, and staff. I don't know the policy on outside guests any more but it is not really a big draw for the community. Still, in Hyde Park it's hard to get a drink and I wouldn't blame you for trying.

Yep, Ciral's House of Tiki is definitely out of business, unfortunately.
