I lived downtown for a year without a car and didn't take a single cab. But I did have my baby's stroller to assist with carrying groceries!

The baby was harnessed out in front to help pull.

CTA is definitely an option.

If I moved to Chicago, I honestly was wondering about transportation home after 'a night out'. For instance, if I went out to a lounge or bar at night and it was really late by the time I left, if it would be better to take a cab or better to take the CTA.

Ideally, I wouldn't be in place like that by myself; I would have made friends and be out with them and take the CTA or the cab together. BUT...what if something happened and I was out somewhere and ended up alone? Do I cab it or take CTA?

That's what makes Chicago better than the other Cities you are looking at. You have the option of public transportation and a cab!

It depends on where you live, and where you go for nightlife, among other things. For example, since I live in LP and often like to go to Wicker Park, the best way is by a couple of buses. The North Ave bus stops running around midnight, so I've made the adjustment of coming home early. I guess I could do a boomerang-shaped train ride at any time of the night, but that just seems silly, not to mention slightly dangerous after a certain hour.

I have a lot of other, easier choices for nightlife, living where I do, but none of them appeal to me quite as much.

So you see it's all very individual, and it's something you learn as you go along.

I generally only use them on weekends when I don't fee like waiting for a bus at 10pm on my way out. Friday an Saturday, $25 a night or so, so anywhere from $100-$200 month just depending on variables. A lot will depend on where you live and are going etc.

Always take a cab after a night out, even if you live nearby, the opportunity for something to happen is much greater when you're walking late at night. I'm a guy, and I always cab home from the bar(s).
