I'm thinking about taking a bus from Minneapolis to Chicago. Is it safe? Is the night bus (depart around 11pm) safe?

Thanks!

I guess it's possible the bus gets in an accident on I90.

I mean they are safe in the sense that probably no one should harass you or do anything to you. However, there are some shady people usually on the greyhound which can make the experience uncomfortable. The passangers on Megabus are definitely more pleasant.

I've taken Megabus to both Milwaukee and Indianapolis (daytime going and nightime returning) and was impressed with the cleanliness and "civility" of the passengers. It's been years since I've been on Greyhound, but I have to agree with chikid, the Megabus riders are probably more apt to be pleasant.

I think the conventional wisdom is that the megabus is a little cleaner than the greyhound. i've never taken the megabus. i hate the greyhound, and i'm not that much of a snob, i take the train everywhere and don't mind it, but the greyhound...yuck! some of the routes also have a tendency to stop every 10 feet.

but yeah i would imagine both are 'safe' lol

Megabus has a major riff-raff filter built into its ticket booking method -- namely, all booking is done online and paid for via credit card or Visa/MC/Amex-branded debit card.

Never taken Megabus to/from Minneapolis, but I've taken it to/from Cleveland and was very pleased with the experience. I don't see how using it to travel between Minneapolis and Chicago would be any different.

From observing the clientele, it appeared that a number of business travelers were using it. I never got that impression on Greyhound.
