Hello, I'm visiting family and they live in Wicker Park. We like the W Hotel but the one in downtown is a little far from their place. Can anyone recommend a really nice contemporary hotel with great service near Wicker Park? We are willing to pay a premium for a great hotel. Can anyone recommend W-like hotel near there?

There are no large hotels like the W other than downtown.

I don't think there's anything like that near there. The problem is it's kind of a dead zone between downtown and WP. I would just stay at the W Lake Shore. (Not the one in the loop.) There are more luxury hotels a little farther west but you are not going to save an appreciable amount of time cabbing from there to Wicker Park and they will be even more expensive.

I wouldn't worry about the cab ride, it's less than 15 minutes and about $15.

Wicker Park is right off the Blue Line, or actually the Blue Line cuts right through the neighborhood. So if you are just looking to get to Wicker Park, any place in the Loop should be fine.

Unfortunately once you go outside of downtown, the city becomes very local and does not cater to tourists. So basically I don't think you are going to find any contemporary cool hotels near Wicker Park. You might find chain hotels or motels in the city, but if I were you I would just stay in the Loop, and take the train to WP. I mean it's only like a 10 minute train ride on average. Cab ride is really short too.

They are planning on building a boutique hotel in the near future in WP but that doesn't help you now.

There really isn't a contemporary hotel near Wicker Park. You could stay at Bed and Breakfast in Chicago | Hotels in Downtown Chicago Illinois | Wicker Park | Home However, it really is nothing like the W Hotel.

There are also places like Airbnb that offer rooms - or even entire apartments - for short-term stays (a day to a month). They're not hotels, but they have their own sets of pluses.

Is the W Lake Shore closer? Why not the one in the loop?

The one in the Loop is closer in terms of expressway or trains to Wicker Park. The one on Lake Shore Drive is more isolated. I have been to the W in the Loop, and I thought it was really nice. You might also be interested in these hotels: The Wit, Hotel Monaco and the Dana Hotel. They are cool hotels with their own little vibes.

If you're looking to save some money, I'd also look into the O'Hare area hotels. There are some decent hotels out there including a Sofitel I think (Sofitel has a fantastic location near downtown as well). From O'Hare you can get on the Blue Line at either Rosemont or Cumberalnd and take it down to the Wicker Park area (I believe the Damen stop is in the center of the area). The ride might take you about 25-35 minutes though, and O'Hare is not a happening area like the downtown areas of course.
