I initially filed for unemployment on April 26, 2011. I was granted $319/week for 26 weeks. I had part time work for 13 weeks totaling $2681, and I plan to start temping. I calculate that even with this additional income, I will exhaust my initial unemployment benefits claim by 12/24/2011, which means that I will be eligible for EUC Tier 1. My understanding is that my EUC weekly benefit should be the same, i.e. $319/week for 20 weeks.

But here's where it gets complicated. I have a job, out of state, from 12/27/2011 - 4/22/2012. My question is this: When I return from this out-of-state gig, will I be able to re-open my EUC benefits claim even though my initial unemployment claim with the state of IL will expire 4/25/2012? Will they require me to open a new claim with IL? And if so, will I be screwed because of the earnings I received during the benefit year? Am I better off not accepting any temp work?

I'm trying to avoid a trip to the unemployment office where I will have to wait hours to speak to somebody who probably won't be able to answer my question anyway. Any knowledge about this will be appreciated.

I don't think you can get any type of extension payments after you run out of Tier One. You started receiving the 6 months of regular payments in May-you will run out of that at the start of November. You have to be done with Tier One by Dec. 25th 2011 to get Tier Two. You will not be done with Tier One by Dec. 25th 2011.
