Calgary is also home to one of the biggest rodeos in the world. I wouldn't have drawn the comparison to Texas myself, but there is more than just oil that can draw comparisons.

Our country spends an enormous amount of money blowing up things in other countries and then rebuilding them. That's money that could be spent improving the standard of living in our cities. The rest of the world doesn't have this burden. Think of the amazing HSR and urban transit network, increased numbers of police, and better educational infrastructure we could afford with the trillion dollars we've sunk into Iraq and Afghanistan.
