It's fine, although Western Avenue, the main drag, is pretty ugly and not representative of the beautiful side streets nearby. That seems to be the pattern when an area improves - first the homes get fixed up, then the business streets improve quite a while later.

I recently moved just south of Holstein Park and I love it. I am on Armitage just east of Milwaukee and Western. Very good mix of people and lots of fun stuff to do, but still quiet enough. It's definitely edgier then, say, Lincoln Park, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. One thing I have noticed is there is a little bit of a graffiti problem. Since I have moved in I have noticed my neighbor across the street get his garage door tagged, as well as a store a few blocks to the east of me get tagged. Not a huge deal, but it is what it is. I really like the area.

Well naturally. The area is not too far away from where many gangbangers live and up until a few years ago the area around Holstein Park was still occupied by a bunch of them. They are trying to hold onto their "turf."
