Hi,
I am moving to Chicago with my children. Kids are all pre-teens and we do not want to move to the burbs.
I would like to find the most urban option while safe, diverse and with good public schools.
Apartment life would be absolutely fine.
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks

I don't mean to sound cynical, but it sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it too. There's a reason most people with kids who have the means to live in the suburbs, do so: schools, schools, schools.

Evanston in the north or Oak Park in the west probably would be your best bet.

Thanks a lot!! I have consistently that Evanston is the best solution. After years of suburb living it would be terrific to be near the city!!

If I had to choose between Evanston and Oak Park, I'd choose Oak Park. Better schools, particularly the high school.

Lincoln Park is nice and all, and Lincoln Park is one of the best non-magnet high schools in the city. But you'd still be settling rather than opting for a truly good school system. Any chance that private schools are in your budget?

Yea, obviously if you can afford private schools, thats the way to go.

Well, there's also UC Lab, Parker and Latin as great private high schools. I think their tuition is in the same ballpark as that of Ignatius. Payton, Young and Morgan Park are great chicago public high schools. Lane Tech and CHAS are good public high schools.

Regions in the city with good elementary public school options include Lincoln Park, Hyde Park and Morgan Park.

And I think it goes without saying you need to be pretty bright to get into these schools as well.
