If I were a member of Al-Qaeda planning my 10th anniversary attack on the US, the Willis Tower would definitely be a target. It is the tallest building in the US now since the twin towers are gone. Why isn't the media or anyone else considering this more? Even aside from the 10th anniversary aspect of it, what about future attacks?

I doubt there will be any attempts on the 11th. They should know that security everywhere will be on high alert.

I agree with the OP. I have not heard the media make one comment about the Willis tower in years regarding it being a terrorist target. It seems like the next logical attack. Especially since there have been other attempts in NYC like the time square bomber. I don't think anyone else expects another plane to bring down a building though, and Chicago is not NYC. I'm guessing intelligence has not shown that Chicago is that big of a target compared to NYC.

It was the tallest even before WTC fell, so by your logic it should have been the primary target then!

WTC was not targeted for being tall, it was targeted for an economic symbol.."WORLD trade center"...i.e. a hand in the western economic policy Al-Queda opposes. The same way it was targeted in 1993 when they tried to blow it up with a Ryder truck in the parking garage. The Pentagon and White House were targeted for their political impact.
Now I suppose at the time if they had a vengeance against the big box store Sears, then it might have been a target.
The level of intelligence on this board never ceases to surprise me.

For those of us that worked in Sears Tower's shadow 10 years ago today, we were very afraid. Very afraid. They did after all evacuate the loop that day but I wasn't there since I learned of the attack before my commute began. We were afraid for days and weeks to come. Some companies moved away from the shadow of this building with that possible threat looming over us.
