Welcome to the city! I got my 1st red light violation. $200! Is that the going rate? Seems way high to me. Anyway, they sent me an invoice to pay which was dated 9/15 and the due date was 9/15. I received it 9/19 - nice huh. Anyway, I went online to view my video. No joke, I went through a green arrow turning left onto Roosevelt and the arrow turned yellow as I went through it. I stopped the video several times to see if they had any case and every time, my vehicle had cleared the intersection while the light was yellow.

Will I win this dispute? I will be disputing this because the video is actually evidence that I did nothing wrong. I'm going over to City Hall tomorrow and am going to dispute this in person. I love Chicago, but this is ridiculous!

Anyone had similar experiences where it was an obvious error against you?

This is one of the reasons I love not having a car. You are guaranteed 1 or 2 of those red light tickets per year if you drive often. Consider it another form of taxes. I do not know about your probability of successfully fighting it.

Damn. YOu need to challenge it because they mailed it to you too late so you had to pay an extra $100. After you live here for a bit you'll adapt your driving. I haven't had one for a while. I never make a right turn on red anymore even if there isn't a sign.

Some feedback - if you can spare the time to get over to 400 W Superior, then you can get a hearing. I went today and because the violation notice I received was totally bogus, the judge reviewed the video and made the decision to dismiss the charge. If it is questionable and didn't have the time, I probably would have paid it.

Know when to throw the red challenge flag against the city! If it's an obvious mistake, I'd suggest spending an hour or so to get the charge dismissed!

The spread of these scameras are one of the reasons I don't go into Chicago much anymore. I hope the revenue from the cameras covers the lost revenue from people taking their business elsewhere.
