I plan on moving to Chicago in a couple years and will most likely be attending Saint Xavier University or Rush University. First of all, I was just wondering if Saint Xavier was in a safe area? I've visited Chicago a few times but have only been around the downtown area but I really loved it.So, I was just wondering where a safe place to live would be for a single girl in their young 20's and that the commute wouldn't be too far from the university?

Thanks for any help!

The area around St. Xavier is fine. Quiet and sleepy and totally devoid of any kind of "university" atmosphere -- in fact the built environment is basically suburban in nature -- but otherwise fine. The area around Rush is known as the Medical District for obvious reasons. It's mostly OK, kind of a mixed bag, but the complexion of your immediate surroundings can change pretty quickly within a few blocks.

If you end up at Rush, a lot of students live in Ukrainian Village or Wicker Park and take the Damen or Ashland bus straight down to it. But given its easy blue and pink line access, you could really live anywhere.
