I am a 26 year old guy and I will be moving to Chicago, possibly in an area called Hyde Park for work starting in March.Where do young single people hang out, and what is the singles scene like? I am from Barbados and I have an accent, are people generally receptive to foreigners and friendly in this part of the US?

chicks dig accents. you'll be fine here.

will you be working in hyde park, going to school there, or just thought that it looks like a good place to settle down. if you are picking a place to live primarily based on your social life, it's probably a ways away from the singles scene. it's beautiful but it's kind of an island of nice surrounded by places you don't want to be.

I know many people who work at the U of C in Hyde Park. However, not one of them lives in Hyde Park. All live on the Northside (Uptown, Lakeview, Rogers Park). Hyde Park has lovely architecture but is pretty boring. It is fairly safe close to the University.

Plenty of foreigners here, no need to worry.

Where you live is not as important as learning how long it will take you to get a place to live from the time you deplane to the time you actually get moved in. It took a friend of mine almost 90 days because he didnot have local credit established. He lived with a sister. Will you live in a motel or with friends?
