And a world of debt and corruption.

Why was this thread resurrected, from three years ago?

Let sleeping dogs lie.

Before we put this dog to sleep, I'll just say I like being apart of Illinois. I like the landscape of the Prairie State. Beautiful towns and cities on the Mississippi like Galena, The Garden of the Gods in the southern tip, and I like the vast openness of the central region since I grew up on the prairie. And the name Chicago really only works with Illinois imo...

True it really only works with IL. Then again maybe were so used to saying Chicago, IL? I wouldn't care if we succeeded or didn't. I never pay mind to the state anyway. I rarely leave Cook or it's surrounding counties.

maybe the map of the new state of Chicagoland will look a little like the one of West Germany after WWII. You know: there is all that land that was made up of West Germany proper and then you have to jump eastward to take in the small swath of land that is West Berlin.

The state of Chicagoland would include Cook and the collar counties (and, who knows, maybe coerce Kenosha Co. and Lake (IN) Co. to join in.

as for the swath removed from the main body: well, we'd have to grab Champaign/Urbana. The University of Illinois is basically ours. It is overwhelmingly loaded with a combination of Chicago and suburban Chicago students that it is basically a Chicago area institution.

my fear would be that if the new Illinois builds a wall around it and cuts off access, we'd have to use Chicago's own, UAL, to airlift goods into town and gown. And I'm not sure United is up to the task.

Illinois needs Chicagoland, we need Illinois as well so to speak.
