hey everyone i was born in chicago and had to move to atlanta when my dad got a job there i absolutely hate atlanta and im set on moving back home im 19 and i got an inheritance of 230,000 im looking to buy a bungalow or ranch preferably but any single family house will do but no condos etc. i know the safe neighborhoods like wrigleyville wicker park etc. but im wondering if there are any less popular neighborhoods that are safe or at least neighborhoods i could survive in with basic street smarts and common sense (ie not somewhere like cabrini green before they tore it down) im looking to stay on the north/northwest side i dont mind if it is a quieter neighborhood and also are there any neighborhoods that are stoner friendly in terms of what im looking for?

Why not just contact a real estate broker and take advantage of the advice offered, considering the seller will be paying the fee. The broker will do the leg-work for you and present you with properties to consider which meet your criteria.

So, you want to know if "there are any less popular neighborhoods that are safe" on the north/northwest side?

Jefferson Park
Avondale
Portage Park
Irving Park
Norwood Park
Hermosa

I can't speak to their "stoner" disposition though.

Good advice. My cousin just bought a cute old bungalow there, very affordable and very safe. Lots of families too, though that may be a draw back for the OP and the stoner tendencies.

I don't think too many people would care if you're just a casual user as long as you maintain your yard and don't fall into the stereotype of lazy stoners who don't take care of things.

If you're a seller, on the other hand, you could very well run into issues in just about any neighborhood if you don't know the lay of the land first. If not from conservative people, then from existing sellers who might make an anonymous call to the cops to tie up competition. Or worse, if you're talking more than weed or x.

I think if I were you I owuld err on the side of caution and smoke Pall Malls outside until you know your neighbors habits. It might be smarter to find a house with a basement and smoke there while you are doing your projects.

I agree with linicx that there is no place I could unilaterally promise you wont have problems. It totally just depends on your particular neighbor. I find it hard to believe Atlanta would be any different.
