Well, I think it's safe to say that in another generation or so, the majority of African Americans will look very similar to present day
mixed race/light people. There will be relatively few dark/brown African Americans.

Black American guys will finally get their wish. All of the 'Black' American women will look like Halle Berry, Paula Patton, Mariah Carrey, Beyonce and Vanessa Williams; while all of the 'Black' American guys will be mixed as well.

You replied respectfully to me, so I will give you the same courtesy...

Sox, the sole reason I bared my 'fangs' and came at you like I did, was because it seemed to these eyes as though you were unnecessarily harsh to the OP...

Also, it seemed as though in the one instance, you were stereotyping her and a LOT of other black (women) folk, with the statement about 'going to Ray-Ray's house to smoke weed and make babies'...and to make references to being 'brainwashed, uncivilized, and uncultured' as well---JUST from her posts here on a chat forum? Anyone who takes the time to post videos and such, surely can't be THAT snap-judgmental...were you a fly on the wall during her youth and adolescence? Could you realistically determine, whether or not she had ever darkened the door of a library, or cracked a book, or even maybe WATCHED, at some other juncture, the videos you posted today? You are like a lot of other folk out here today, and I say this TOTALLY without rancor at this moment---you base (at least in this instance) your opinion of her based on some of your exposure to the negative perceptions of 'black culture', and automatically assume she doesn't know what she's talking about...the same way I composed my post to you, based on what I had read here upthread...

And let's take it a step further here---OUR first contact on City-Data was through our exchange this afternoon...I posted what I did based on what I had read in your replies to the OP...know this---I am a 'race man', old school and to my heart...I will butt heads with anyone, black or otherwise, that I feel is unjustly casting my people (or segments of same) in a negative light...I responded the way I did, based on the fact that I didn't think what you were saying to the young lady was correct...other than that, frankly, I have no other real beef with you...hopefully, this may clear the air somewhat...

I'm RiverRise, and your posts are bordering on trolling. I think there are other ways to expend energy than on someone who's ignorant and close-minded. You obviously are not going to change your views. Having a CONVERSATION with someone willing to EXCHANGE ideas rather than hear themselves speak is more productive.

People are, of course, free to do as they please.

All I have to say is, "Wow!" There is so much to digest here, but I'm not in the mood to write a term paper about it.

I will say to the OP that she should go for it. Just like searching for a job, it only takes one and the type that you want is out there.

I will leave this information for other posters. Keep in mind that race is a social construct and why it came about. Apparently, a few posters would revise the history of Black folks in this country.

Too many of them are out of shape. They don't believe in working out, especially the black ones. I'd be willing to bet that the obesity rate is around 70%. It's ridiculous.

I'll admit I was a little harsh with the delivery, but my intent was not to criticize the race but to shed light on the cultural habits of a sub-culture. See I could care less about race...to me people are people. I dont base my opinion about people from a race perspective, race means nothing to me, I base my opinion from a cultural standpoint, a behavioral perspective. The problem with African Americans is they see EVERYTHING from a racial standpoint and totally ignore the fact that most of the issues in America are strictly cultural and behavioral that have NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR RACE, but EVERYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR UPBRINGING AND CULTURE. The more we classify by race the longer we keep getting it wrong. Believe it or not. African americans are not one unified people, never were and will never be. America is nowhere near as race based as it is class based. African descent Americans can and should realistically be classified like every other race in America- by class. Its crazy how there can be so many different ways to classify and differentiate every race/group except for African Americans.....we get tagged black and thats where it stops. But if you notice when Jersey Shore became popular....Middle class educated Italians all across America made a **** storm in order to quickly divide what the Jersey Shore kids were doing compared to the rest of Italian Americans. They quickly made sure the world knew that they were the rejects/ghetto version of Italians, they were the NorthEast Coast section of Italians or whatever....even went as far as trying to get the show banned. And when they went to Italy the country, the Italian made sure to treat them with disdain to show the fact that they do not approve of their version of Italians. BUT NOT African Americans, we are ALL ONE, LMAO!!! When Lil Wayne gets on tv acting like Black southern redneck from the slums, we all get tossed in his pile!! Where are the educated middle class black men causing a **** storm to separate themselves from that section of people....nowhere, why because they dont want to be deemed as sell outs to their "race"....this is the danger of a race based perspective while ignoring culture and sub-cultures. I dont care about race...Lil Wayne and Baby dont represent me, in no shape or form. He is a redneck from a lower class background, he is the equivalent of a country trailor park white guy who does meth and screws his cousin....they are no different. They come from the same culture. Race means nothing its about culture....values, perspective, ethics.

I don't know if it'll happen that fast, but here in central Illinois I see a lot of interracial children. Though I do think some African American men are color struck, we are not alone. My mother along with some of her dark skin cousins from the south are still color struck.

"Please bring those pretty mixed grand kids of yours to the family reunion" I have overheard **** like this. I have yet to hear "I can't wait to see those pretty dark/black/African American grand kids."

Seems to me that it is some people's human nature to want what all the other sheep have. For example:

* A clear colorless not-terribly-rare overpriced rock on your finger stating to all the other women around that you've secured a mate, and most importantly, that the sex is socially acceptable now.
* A wedding worthy of being televised to the world, complete with 300 people you'll talk to once or twice ever again after the event.
* An over-sized, over-priced SUV to show the other mommies what your status is, even though you are only hauling two kids around. Best it be a 4X4 too, for those dangerous hills in Hoffman Estates.
* An expensive cell phone plan so you can upload facebook photos of your precious snowflake when they soil their first diaper, or whenever they breathe, fart, or just look gawd-awful cute when you put a $90 gap kids puppy jumpsuit on them.

On the men's side, it's a similar list, but I think it's an even longer list of boats, cars, motorcycles, being at the right club, drinking the proper martini, access to the expensive cigar, proving that you are as virile when 45 as you were when you were 20, Viagra, lol... It's all materialistic neurotic crap to fill the void of personal betterment that most people don't bother to access. Sit there and watch a professional sports game, and write down all the idiotic crap they are trying to sell. Most people start believing they need all this trash in their lives.

We've been training generations now of people to be materialistic and to value stupidity and the rites of passage that come with them. I'm not saying everyone is a sheep, but sadly most are.

70% of the Earth is water. I'm opposed to the 30% who are ruining it. Let's turn it over to the Dolphins. I'm sure they'll do a better job.

As for the OP: Just take a vacation in Chicago for a week, see what it is like, and see if you fit in. It's a vibrant city, with plenty of different things to do. Yelp can be very helpful with descriptions of clubs, bars, coffeehouses, and basically any public location.
This Comment is excellent and the thread is sad. Black women are confused if they are purporting that a black man will kick Gabriel Union out of bed because she isn't as light as Kim Kardashian or Beyonce. It's the media that posts pictures of light skinned women, but when it comes to REALITY guys want a beautiful women.....light or black....with only standard preferences applied.

SMH at the confused ebony women in this thread. America has you ashamed of your own skin and that is wrong.

There are several reasons for that. To blame it soley on America/slavery is not wise.
