Seems like the city would just pick a generic skyline picture or something. I like it when cities have contests like this, but I'm surprised they even have it to begin with.

I meant the first one.

Guess they won't be using ANY of the drawings:

City won't use any contest art for city sticker - chicagotribune.com

What a disgrace of a promotion. This mess got negative NATIONAL attention, now it was all for nothing...

Heh.
". . . because of 'unwanted media and public scrutiny and criticism of her artwork,' Henehan’s family 'has now requested that their child’s artwork not be used,' Mendoza said in a statement released with the family.

"In the statement, Henehan’s parents, Marty and Maria Henehan, said: 'While our daughter truly enjoyed participating in the design contest and was proud to see Chicago select her as the first runner up, what should have been a happy accomplishment in her life has now turned sour.'"

I hope jdiddy feels bad now.

In all seriousness though, I'm quite relieved that I won't have to put that hideous thing on my cars. Hopefully this fiasco will put an end to this whole silly contest.

The last sticker was just plain UGLY.

Not all was lost in the fiasco.

After all the original intent was to engage the kids in creative thinking
this year they really got creative

I sincerely wish that they would just issue a sticker that is about a quarter of the current size sticker and has on it in plain letters "Chicago Vehicle Tax Paid 2012" and the serial number. It would cost a lot less to make, block less of the windshield, and be easier to scrape off.

Better yet, I wish they could just make some deal with the state where the state would collect the city fee when you renewed your license plate and a single sticker on your license plate would be proof that you paid all your state and local vehicle fees. This would save a tremendous amount of money and trouble for all involved. But, unfortunately, I know it would cost city jobs.
