Crazy. Those predated the highrises. Originally they were all Sicilian, or half Sicilian, I forget which, serving as public housing for residents of what had formerly been called "Little Hell," the Sicilian ghetto right around there and I think extending to Goose Island. Also a lot of WWII vets.

Anyway, good riddance.

It was never intended to be permanent housing for people, just a temporary stop while they regrouped, got themselves a job and moved up and out.

Its clear to me, you haven't been to the neighborhood in, say, the past 5 years or so. Visit, in person or on Google Maps and see first-hand. Your characterization is not an accurate portrayal of what you'll find.

I just rode by, and then actually through, down Hudson, the neighborhood tonight and, in fact, it did not look closed at all. Lots of people out and about in the row houses. Maybe they're clearing out.

Again, if you could specifically pinpoint what part of my post (from three months ago!) you take issue with, I think it would be easier to address your question.

As of the moment I don't even know what you're taking issue with.
