Yeah, it seems things are flaring up in that section of Edgewater. Already a handful of shootings near there this year -- three of them fatal -- plus some creep who got into an argument with someone and decided to resolve it by running him over with a car and sending him to the morgue.

So far the fatal shootings have taken place in the 6200 block of Clark Street (believed to be gang-related), 6100 block of N. Winthrop (I think this one was domestic but I don't remember for sure), and the 1200 block of Devon (convenience store robbery). The one on Devon was technically in RP but only because it happened on the north side of the street instead of the south side. The "vehicular" murder was on the 6200 block of N. Lakewood; that one stemmed from an argument that started in a bar.

Ahh, yeah I remember the Devon one, but not the other two. They probably were mistakenly classified as Rogers Park and I just didn't pay attention.
I remember the car thing. Totally lame and stupid.

Yeah the north end of town from like Addison to Devon (between Ashland and the lake) has a long history of crazy stuff.

The worst thing about Edgewater is how so many of the problem buildings are clustered in that Winthrop-Kenmore corridor, which is effectively around the Red Line. If you want to be close to the train, you'll probably be near some gangbangers. Berwyn seems to be the safest Edgewater "El" stop as far as I can tell.

Honestly, I haven't really run into any problems. My block actually seems pretty deserted most of the time, even at like 2 am. It's funny you say that about Berwyn, because I feel less comfortable there than at Bryn Mawr.
