That's a loooong time to be sure, but maybe in the next 3 years, as her area hopefully continues to gentrify, her pull will lessen?

I thought that would happen in 2007. And many others thought the same thing in 2003 and 1999. She keeps winning by a few hundred votes each time, and it's deeply frustrating.

With the housing bust, it seems to me that the rate of change in Uptown has slowed a bit as far as housing is concerned. But the commercial districts are definitely continuing to improve.

How old is she? Maybe she'll die...

That's what a couple of people I know were hoping would happen with that Alaska senator. But he's like 84!

Sure I will be in the area at that time and she will get my vote.

Yeah, because an Alderman who refuses to meet with residents and whose staff tells people to f*** off is is a great public servant... You have no idea who you're dealing with here.

Too late for that. You have a very naive impression of what Uptown actually is, and what it has been for many years.

People like you make me want to throw up! Personal attach, personal attach! People really are more confused now than ever about what really matters in life! You will probably push the poor out some day, longer it takes the better and you can be happy right? All that matters... to people like yourself.

Sure. My building's been condo since 1978 and my block was probably about 90% white middle class residents when I moved in, so I really apologize for "pushing the poor out". Give me a break. You honestly don't know Uptown at all. Uptown has always been a bit of a mixed bag, and higher-income residents have been here for decades. Long-term residents include truly rich people like Studs Terkel and former Republican Governor "Big Jim" Thompson. The balance is just tipping a bit more towards the middle class, but I fully suspect that Uptown will remain a diverse community for years to come.

Uptown residents, regardless of income levels, deserve an Alderman who is responsive to their needs and who cares about crime, trash on the streets, neighborhood improvements, etc. Alderman Shiller is a race-baiting socialist who purposely keeps the neighborhood down for her own political gain. My political beliefs are left-leaning, but Helen Shiller is off the deep end.
