Coming out to Chicago next month for a week and planning on visiting the Saint Jude Shrine on 1910 South Ashland Avenue. However, I've heard this is an especially dangerous part of the city. Is this a safe area to drive through, etc?

You should be fine.
There's always people in that area.
Stay on the main streets.
Get yourself an elote.

Been there a lot of times... It's safe. Mostly a Mexican neighborhood though.

Though parts of the Pilsen neighborhood have improved in recent years, it's still a ****ty neighborhood - near where the church is. It's at the Church of St. Pius V, a predominently Mexican parish. Safe to drive through. Safe to walk on Ashland most of the day. Be careful at night.
