First time posting here and thinking about moving to the Montrose/Hermitage and Montrose area. Seems like a great area, but I've seen it marked as both Ravenswood and Uptown. I've heard nothing but great things about Ravenswood and mixed reviews about Uptown. Either way, any thoughts are appreciated.

That's a perfectly fine area. I think that's the very western edge of Uptown. Uptown is only sketchy in parts, and that's not one of them.

Rahm Emmanuel lives just south of Montrose on Hermitage. The area is perfectly fine.

Safe as it gets for big-city living. Go for it. Added bonus: being within walking distance of at least two of the city's premier entertainment districts, and a quick train ride (15 minutes or less) via the Montrose Brown Line stop to several others.

The little business strip on Montrose stretch right around the L stop has really tidied up over the years.

I lived right there about 20 yrs ago - maybe even longer and it was perfectly safe even then and it's only gotten better. To me, that's the heart of Ravenswood, I would consider Ravenswood to start no further west than Ashland. Back when I lived there, I was an apartment rental agent on Southport and the clientele was generally college educated 20 and 30 somethings and everybody wanted to live in Lincoln Park and Lakeview. It was like pulling teeth to get people to go north of Irving or west of Racine. It's interesting to see how that's all changed.

Better not tell me now that's a non safe area: last year on my trip I walked there with my wife for hours! Seriously if that is an area considered dangerous, then Chicago is not as bad as some make it sound...but we knew that already, didn't we??
