The boots only matter when it's snowy or icy. Otherwise, wear regular shoes or boots to work and change at the office.

Yes, winter and dress shoes don't mix. Once streets/sidewalks/parking lots are salted, nothing will ruin a pair of dress shoes quicker than salty slush/water.

I wear a pair of crappy snowboots in the winter and change to dress shoes when I get to work. That is what most people who walk as a part of their commute do.

That's me, too; indeed, I might have a nice overcoat or two to lend to our lil' Miami friend. Then again, I bike through the winter, so I *am* traversing the tundra here. The biggest revelation of my winter-clothing life was windproof fleece. The inverse of "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" is "it's not the cold, it's the wind."

For most of the winter, I can get by with my usual office wear + just a windproof jacket (and hat, gloves, overshoes). Yes, overshoes: big Cordura things you strap on over your nice shoes. Some of my coworkers who take the train also swear by them, but they only use them on slushy days.

My new experiment this year will be wool base layers, as recommended to me by a Canadian friend.

Remember to keep your skin moisturized so you don't get ashy!

I work all over the Colorado mtns in the winter and am headed to chicago this weekend. The dressiest boots I wear with pants are some ankle high zip ups, black of course, like those beatle boots. It's not just how you look but also safety.

I also wear the waffle bottom boots referred to in another post. If have a decent wind proof coat, a great wool hat and warm gloves, and are comfortable not like an overstuffed sausage, you will look great and feel great. For the office you have to get used to cardigans or jackets that you can take off or leave on, depending.

I simply wear a warm coat, a hat if need be, and some gloves. If Im going to be outside for prolonged periods of time, I simply wear some long-johns under my jeans and throw on a heavier shirt. Problem solved!

Join the club. Our movies from Netflix arrived (Oceans 13, Chuck and Larry), we have NOWHERE to go, and some Rosatis or Aurelios will be ordered and delivered.
