Overseas, basketball is much bigger than football. That also has to do with people in other countries thinking of Jordan before the Bears. I guess it's better than them thinking of Al Capone or Oprah, anyway.

I know the Bears are loved more than Bulls generally speaking, but when you have Jordan giving you 6 championships and putting Chicago on the world map so easily, that is a dream of any fan in any city. I am asking this because I read comments on the ESPN Chicago site about Chicago's favorite athletes, and the general theme of the comments were that "if you are a true Chicago sports fan, Walter Payton>Michael Jordan, and '85 Bears > '90s Bulls".

I thought that was kind of nutty, but I guess thats the typical reaction from a non-Chicagoan who doesn't care about the Bears, but loves MJ and the '90s Bulls.
WTF?

Michael Jordan & the 90's Bulls were EVERYTHING to me as a child growing up in Chicago (even though I eventually moved).

Since they disbanded, I can BARELY watch basketball games.

The Bears weren't doing the things the Bulls were doing in the 90's so, I can't really say I'm a huge Bears fan. (except when they're playing the Packers)

I had (still do) such pride being from Chicago as a kid mainly because of the Bulls' domination and history.

My generation talks about the 90s bulls and the current bulls.

And worlwide no one cares about the bears. Or even knows them.
The whole world knows the bulls.

I grew up as a fan of basketball and baseball(cubs)

Your assumption, that the Bears are the favored team, is incorrect.

Agreed.
Everytime a sport thread. Came up here asking "is chicago baseball, football, basketball. Town"
Everyone said it was a football town.
But from my experience it is basketball.

It probably has to do with the demographics.

It think the younger you go the more it will be basketball. Many people who are between 30 years old and 18 really grew up with Chicago Bulls dynasty. Also it will continue on with the younger people in Bulls current state. People 30 and under either weren't born or barely remember Bears superbowl win. I know how special it must have been, but what I truly remember are those two 3peats the Bulls gave us.

Unless the Bears start tacking on more superbowl wins soon, I think Chicago will start to become more of a Bulls town. With baseball it's more difficult since there are two teams. With the Blackhawks you will find very few, if any, minorities that follow it, and Chicago is a city made up mostly of minorities. Hockey tends to be a "white" sport.

Well the original question was a Bears team based in a single season, or the whole Bulls dynasty. With that in mind it is an easy pick for the dynasty because it was winning on a large scale of a long period of time. Now if you were to take one season and compare it to the '85 Bears than that is a different story.

The Sox had a great parade and celebration when they won the WS.
For you cub fans, WS=World Series.lol

Butt, the greatest parade and celebration was when the Hawks won the Cup.
The entire downtown area was a parade and party.
And, amost NO vandalism or arrests.

Unfortunately, due to the failure of scotty's little boy Stan, things get worse every year this idiot is in charge.
Rocky needs to dump this clown and find a HOCKEY man to be GM.

After tonight, the Hawks will be wearing spikes instead of cleats:~(

Chicago hangs harder on the '85 Bears more than any other city does to their past champions. Many of the '85 players are in business or sports radio/TV. There are references to the team all the time. I see guys wearing 1985 SB Champs stuff, even new leather jackets. A lot of those guys could walk into a bar today and drink free.

I am from Detroit. We won the WS in 1984. It was every bit as big to Detroit as the SB was to Chicago, but eventually Detroit moved on. Chicago hasn't really let go of the '85 Bears. There were a lot of special things about that team and that season. Chicago holds them very dear.
