Hello Friends,

I am from India and I have got a job offer from a US company based in Chicago. From the company profile, it seems that the company headquarter is near "North Lakeview Ave.". I want to opt for rented apartment. Kindly let me know the cost of living ( food+transport+stay) considering that I want to stay near the company premises. Also, any suggestion on apartment or any other mode of stay will be of great help.
This will be my first visit to US.

Also, how much do I need to survive ? Is 600K USD is enough for first 2 weeks?

North Lakeview Ave is in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Not sure where you would be working as I thought it was residential. 600,000 USD is enough for a decade...

Lincoln Park /Lakeview are good areas to rent an apt. in especially for a new comer. Its safe there and there are lots of different kinds of people living there more or less. Do you mean 600 dollars or 600 thousand dollars? You can rent an apt. for a year and then decide where you want to live once you get more familiar.

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts.
Sorry, 600K USD was a typo. I meant 600 USD. Also, my package is 75K USD / year. Is this amount enough to survive?
Any descriptive information will be highly appreciated. I just want a normal living as I am not into Bar, Pub and Alcohol.

US$ 600 is enough for food and invidentals for 2 weeks, however it would not be enough to cover temporary housing. If your new company is providing you with temporary housing, $600 should be plenty for basic necessities for a couple weeks.

I could not stop laughing when I read "is 600k enough for 2 weeks?". Anyways, I responded to your other thread saying that you will be able to find a good place to live within your budget close to work. Look in the Lakeview and Lincoln Park neighborhoods.

bring more money man!!! 600 dollars you never know. come with atleast 1000 dollars just in case of any emergency. bring some utensils and learn how to make food so that you can cook food rather then wasting money in eating outside. accomodation costs are there, remember many things require you pay a deposit. even cell phones deals are expensive.
