Hello,
I recently moved to a salon in West Loop/Fulton Market and I am having a hard time marketing in this area to meet new clients. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to market myself to potential clients in this area. I have a website and every online listing possible (ie, Lifebooker, Yelp, etc) and I have gone to networking functions and nothing seems to "stick". Not to sound cocky, but I am a good stylist and I'm not outrageously priced. It has actually been suggested to me that my prices are too low (Mod Cut). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hang out at the west loop drinking establishments, plenty of potential customers there.

Maybe your prices are too low. I paid $45 for a hairstyling from an excellent stylist (he styled for magazine covers) in Chicago, and considered it money well spent. But that was 40 years ago.

I paid $9 last month but I do not live in Chicago. You might take a page from Tabitha Coffee and blanket the area with an introductory $30 adult cuts and a $10 for kids under 5, or $75 for families on Tuesdays. There are a lot of ways to spread the word and get exposure. Depending upon the weather you could even style a model outside if the city will allow it; give her a free cut. Hold a free cut drawing once a week or once a month. In this economy $50 for a plain haircut is a lot of money.

If you are able to do this, a good idea would be to offer a coupon on your salon's website. When I was looking for a Chicago stylist, I looked at deals on stylechicago.com and a 50% off a cut or dye caught my eye.
