Perhaps if you scanned the weather records you could find a day or two in the winter when this was true. Maybe.

I lived in Rockford, Il. for 45 years before I lived in Alaska. Rockford is slightly colder than Chicago. Where I lived in Alaska, which isn't even one of Alaska's coldest places, it was much, much colder overall than Rockford. This shouldn't be hard for people to believe because I was living near the arctic circle.

Chicago's record low temperature is -31. There was a year when the mean temperature in Fairbanks for the entire month of January was colder than this.

In my original post I was trying to say that if dogs are happy being outside in a really cold area, generally much colder than Chicago, moving dogs from Florida to Chicago should not be any problem. I didn't think people would find it problematic, but apparently, a couple of people did.

I brought my dog from Costa Rica. So far she has been ok, but she hasn't experienced true winter yet. I bought her a dog coat. They have pretty cheap ones at Old Navy that actually seem pretty well-made and warm. (She's a 12-pound mutt with medium-length hair.)

I'll tell you one thing, though. These warm weather dogs will sure do their "business" quickly when it's cold. That's good for you!
